OUR HISTORY
Late in 1947, following a meeting of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, a small group consisting of M. Gallienne (Union Routiere de France), M. Britschgi (Federation Routiere Suisse) and several prominent American and European business leaders met in Paris to discuss the founding of an international organisation to weld together the “Good Roads Associations” existing in many countries.
The response of industry directly interested in Road Transport to the suggestion of an International Road Federation was immediate and whole-hearted. The International Road Federation was born in 1948.
OUR VISION
We envision a world where roads and transportation networks are safe, sustainable, and efficient for all. By promoting cutting-edge innovations and best practices, we aim to ensure that road infrastructure not only enhances mobility but also contributes to environmental sustainability, economic growth, and improved quality of life.
Our goal is to foster a global road system that is resilient, accessible, and capable of meeting the diverse needs of communities, while prioritizing safety and reducing environmental impacts.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to champion the development of road infrastructure and networks that ensure access to safe, reliable, and sustainable mobility for everyone. We strive to advance road systems that enhance connectivity and support the economic, social, and environmental goals of communities worldwide.
Through collaboration with industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders, we promote innovations and practices that foster more resilient, efficient, and inclusive transportation networks. By focusing on sustainable solutions, we are committed to shaping road systems that meet the present and future needs of society while minimizing environmental impact.
