The International Road Federation (IRF) is pleased to support the Africa Regional Seminar on “Building Climate Resilient Transport Infrastructures, Adapting Design of Existing Transport Infrastructures to a Changing Climate”, taking place in Arusha, Tanzania, from 23 to 27 June 2025.
The event is hosted by the Tanzania Roads Association, together with the Tanzania’s Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Works and the Tanzania Transportation Technology Transfer (TanT2) Centre.
With climate-related flooding causing over $14 billion in annual damage to urban roads globally (World Bank), investing in resilient transport systems is essential to safeguard connectivity, economies, and lives.
IRF Acting Director General, Gonzalo Alcaraz, will contribute to the discussion through a video intervention, highlighting:
The urgent need to embed climate resilience into road design and maintenance, especially in low- and middle-income countries;
The importance of cross-sectoral collaboration and data-informed planning;
IRF’s commitment to supporting governments and stakeholders in building infrastructure that can withstand future climate shocks.
