Society of Transport Engineers Nepal (SOTEN): Impactful Initiatives in March and April

In the past months, SOTEN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Asian Transport Outlook to foster collaboration in capacity building, research, and publication within the transport sector.

This signifies the second MOU ever signed by the Asian Transport Outlook with a professional society worldwide. The signing ceremony included Sudhir Gota from ATO Padma Shahi and Hemant Tiwari from SOTEN.

With a focus on capacity building in transportation engineering, Hemant Tiwari, the General Secretary of SOTEN, conducted a session titled “Transport Infrastructure Development: Current Status, Issues, and Way Forward” for MSc students in Infrastructure Engineering & Management at Western Regional College, Institute of Engineering.

In other news, ten representatives from SOTEN participated in the National Workshop on Inclusive Transport and Innovation for Nepal on 3-4 April 2024, organised by UNESCAP. The workshop focused on inclusive public transport, particularly from a gender perspective, aligning with SOTEN’s commitment to encouraging women’s engagement in the transport field.

To further its mission, SOTEN produced a Happy Women’s Day Video featuring the voices of female engineers representing various sectors, including Government, Local Bodies, Consulting and Academic, Donor Agencies, and Engineers abroad. The video is available here:

Additionally, SOTEN has recently signed an MOU with Lalitpur Engineering College to promote research, capacity building, and knowledge sharing in the transport sector. This collaboration builds upon the partnership established with LEC in organizing the LEC Symposium 2023.

Furthermore, SOTEN is collaborating on the publication of the International Journal of Engineering Technology and Infrastructure Development (InJET-InDev), slated for release in early June 2024.
